Stussy Livin Extra Large video's

We all know to well Stussy's prominence in the scene today and when it comes to an original you cannot go much further. What Shaun Stussy began as a low key punk rock inspired surf label has now turned into a worldwide phenomena and here are two films which take you back to the early years. With the Stussy Livin' Extra Large campaign here is a commercial featuring some of the inspirations we see today and an early interview with Shaun Stussy, definitely a character who provided the label with a unique flavor.

Atlanta bred tastemaker, television host and MC, Fonzworth Bently has gone from holding umbrellas for Diddy to holding mics with some of the most legendary MCs to spit. The dapper artist has proved himself to be a triple threat in the music, television and fashion industry by simply exuding a bit of his southern charm and injecting a bit of class and style in the often comically thuggish world of mainstream Hip Hop. Coinciding with the debut of Bentley’s new show “From G’s To Gents” he now releases a new video “Everybody” featuring Andre 3000, Kanye West and Sa-Ra, from his long delayed debut album titled “C.O.L.O.U.R.S.” (An acronym for Cool Outrageous Lovers of Uniquely Raw Style). The track introduces Bentley’s unique rhyme style and cadence over a distinctly electro, funk, rhythm and blues canvas that recalls Andre’s “The Love Below” masterpiece. For good measure 3K drops an ill verse and Kanye does a bit of acting and choreographed dancing as Sa-Ra bangs on the instruments.

Smif N Wessun Feat. Rock & Joell Ortiz - Stomp

Smif N Wessun, Rock Of Heltah Skeltah, & Joell Ortiz Team Up With Director Rik Cordero For Music Video "Stomp" Off Of "The Album" In Stores Now!!!!

50 cents per idea

From Charlie Todd:
"Jake Bronstein recently bought a toy vending machine off the Internet. He filled the toy capsules with ideas of fun things to do and started placing the machine in various spots around New York. For 50 cents you get the original toy, an idea, and a map to guide you to the location for your idea. Each capsule also contains a quarter, refunding half of your purchase price (the machine wouldn’t let him charge less than 50 cents.)"

Nas x Alife Live Performance

Nas dropped his new album today, and in promotion for the event he teamed up with Alife to make some exclusive tee’s and lighters. He also decided to put down a live performance for a relatively small crowd at Alife. He sets things off with “Represent” and heads into “Made You Look” sounding as confident as ever behind the mic. The performance is nothing too special, but it is cool to see Nas so connected with the New York urban culture. Nas is out today, so pick it up and support the legendary MC even though I’m sure nearly every rap enthusiast has heard the leak.

Kanye West: In Absolute World Commercial

Featured in a new commercial for Absolut Vodka, The Louis Vuitton Don himself appears as the life of the party. In a hilarious turn of events, everyone wants to be like Mr.West, literally. With music by Pharrell Williams, the commercial showcases the creative side of both superstars.

N*E*R*D: Spaz

One of the reasons N.E.R.D works so well as a complete band rather than just an experimental Hip Hop group is their spirited, high energy live shows that channel the Sex Pistols just as much as Run DMC. That same energy was realized in full force on the group’s third album “Seeing Sounds”. Just about every song on the album sounded like it could start a cipher session just as fast as it could a mosh pit right next to the b-boys. Therefore, it is not surprising that the group chooses live performance for the visual aspect of their music. “Spaz” stands out as a track on the album that easily meshes Chad’s crunching guitars and break beats to compliment Pharrell’s falsetto voice and Shae’s braggadocios rhymes. The video features the band working the crowd into frenzy in what appears to be actual footage from a live show.

Family Guy's Cleveland Spinoff is Trading Races

It’s a well-known fact that the voice of Cleveland, the only prominant black character on Fox’s Family Guy, is done by a white guy (Mike Henry, one of the show’s writers). Well now he’ll be getting his own spin-off, The Cleveland Show, in 2009, where the character will be moving to Virginia with his new family.
And the best part (aside from the fact that Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long are both in the cast) is that the show will feature a white “redneck” neighbor who is being played by seasoned voice actor Kevin Richardson, who is (you guessed it!) a black man. White is black and black is white? WHAT WILL AMERICA THINK?! The crossing of streams brings to mind some famous race reversals of the past. Check ‘em out after the jump.
The legendary hardcore punk band Suicidal Tendencies are set to release a New Era 59FIFTY fitted cap later this summer. With simplicity in mind, the hat only features the much recognizable Suicidal Tendencies logo on the front as well as added details on the rear and under-bill. Releasing August 2nd at Babekubcity.com

NAS, Sly Fox

Hip Hop has always been a lightning rod for controversy in the mainstream media which never seemed to grasp nor care for the hard hitting often explicit subject contained within the music. However, last year when Fox news attacked Nas for performing at the Virginia Tech memorial concert it was bizarre for long time and casual fans of an artist whose track record includes volumes of cerebral, intelligent and even unabashedly positive music. What is not in question is Fox’s own history of eschewed news reporting tilting extremely far to the right of most major new publications, despite of the “fair and balanced” motto they repeat constantly. In “Sly Fox”, a new track off of Nas’ new untitled album, the MC expertly defends himself against the virulent barrage the news channel inflicted upon him and comments on the stations subject matter over urgent rock riffs. Rik Cordero once again puts in work on the video which ends poignantly with a commentary on how media and information has been put back in the hands of the people.

Martha Cooper was a photo-journalist living in New York City when she first began documenting the origins of B-boy (short for break-boys) and hip hop culture. While other New Yorkers at the time saw this movement as a trite, uninspired or even offensive fad, Martha found a new form of expressing art. Through her camera lens we recount the infancy of hip-hop culture, from the alleys and subways of New York to the masses beyond the boroughs.

Is Skateboarding a Fashion?

With gas prices at a record high and public transit a cost-effective and greener option, now's a good a time to ditch your car. Zipcar is trying to ease the transition with the "Low-Car Diet." Beginning 21 July 2008, they're challenging North Americans to go car-free for a full 30 days. They will replace participants' car keys with a complimentary transit pass, a free one-year Zipcar membership, drive time credit and a number of other perks from local partners. In the New York City area, Zoo York will aid the car-less participants by donating skateboards (pictured).
